We have recently had the opportunity to talk with Kat McNamara from the Disney Channel Original Movie, "Girl Vs. Monster." The actress talked about the DCOM, projects she has been working on and some of her favorite things related to Halloween and Disney.

Dis411: Tell us all about your role in the Disney Channel Original Movie, "Girl Vs. Monster."

Kat McNamara: I love the role of Myra Santelli! She goes through such a metamorphosis in the story. I feel as though I got to play 3 different characters! At first, Myra is your stereotypical high school mean girl. She is very narcissistic and possessive of those close to her. She has a huge rivalry with Skylar (Olivia’s character) which brings out her meanest self. Then, Myra ends up getting possessed by the monster! When possessed, she is even more evil and sinister to Skylar. Eventually though, after she is no longer possessed, she turns nice and ends up being good friends with Skylar.

Dis411: Is it hard to play a character that is so opposite of your own personality?

Kat McNamara: I love playing characters that are different than myself! It’s the best kind of challenge to have to explore the mind of someone who is the complete opposite of your personality! It’s also great to have such a distinct character to really grasp and play with while filming.

Dis411: What was it like working with Olivia Holt, Luke Benward, Brendan Meyer and Kerris Dorsey for this movie?

Kat McNamara: We had such a blast working on “Girl vs. Monster.” We spent almost three months shooting the film and became such a family. We are all still very close. During production, we would have sleepovers, family dinners and movie nights, we’d go sightseeing together - it was wonderful! I feel so blessed to have made such wonderful lifelong friendships on this project.

Dis411: Can you share a fun experience/story of your time together with the cast offscreen?

Kat McNamara: Of course! There are so many fun stories to share! One of my favorites is when Olivia, Kerris, Luke’s sister Gracie, and I had a sleepover one night. We had such a good time! We blasted music, made funny videos, took cool pictures, ate lots of popcorn, and ended the night with “Legally Blonde!”

Dis411: We know that you have worked on Disney XD's "Kickin' It" and have been in other films. Which do you prefer?

Kat McNamara: I love working in all different media of the entertainment industry - I don’t think I could ever choose! Film is so much fun because you are actually on location on many different sets shooting something new every day! Television such as “Kickin’ It!” is great too because of the fast pace and the regularity of the work. I also love working in the theater. I did a Broadway show for a year and I love the energy that the audience gives in a live performance. Although you are performing the same material every day, each performance is a bit different in ways only the actors in the show can identify. This makes each performance special and unique.

Dis411: What upcoming projects can you tell us about?

Kat McNamara: I have several upcoming projects - besides “Girl vs. Monster” of course! The first is “Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn” in which I play Becky Thatcher. This is such a great film. I have seen a few clips and it is a beautiful movie. Not only that, but the other actors involved are incredible. Joel Courtney plays Tom and Jake T. Austin plays Huck. Not only are these guys two of my good friends, they are amazing actors as well. They truly made this project special. Look for this in late 2012 or early 2013. Also, I filmed a movie this summer called “Contest” with Kenton Duty and Danny Flaherty. This project is very near and dear to my heart as it confronts the issue of bullying. It touches on several types of bullying including cyberbullying, bullying in school, as well as child abuse. This is such a great story that I feel needs to be told so that kids can become more aware of the true ramifications of this terrible epidemic. This film is keeping a PG-13 rating in order to open the door for families to discuss these issues as well. Look for this in 2013!

Dis411: Now for some fun questions about some of your favorite things!

Dis411: Favorite Halloween costume you've worn?

Kat McNamara: My grandfather is a retired dentist, so he made me a flipper/retainer type device with vampire teeth attached that was made to fit my mouth. They looked so real!

Dis411: Favorite Halloween candy/treat?

Kat McNamara: Kitkats, of course!

Dis411: Favorite Disney movie?

Kat McNamara: I love them all! It’s too hard to choose! Each of them holds a special place in my heart with so many wonderful memories!

Dis411: Favorite Disney character? It’s a toss up between Cinderella and Mulan.

Kat McNamara: I love the whimsical  fairy tale vibe of Cinderella, but I also love Mulan’s strength and perseverance.

Dis411: Favorite ride at Disneyland/Walt Disney World?

Kat McNamara: I have never been to a Disney theme park! I am working on changing that though. :)

We absolutely enjoyed this interview with Kat, and look forward to watching "Girl Vs. Monster" on Disney Channel Friday, October 12th! Thanks again to Miss McNamara for taking the time to talk with us!
